Nutrition Starts with H2O

Nutrition! A topic thrown around so much it’s gotten muddled and sloppy. It irritates me when I bring up the subject and people voice their opinions IMMEDIATELY about losing weight. To be perfectly clear here, I am not talking about dieting for weight loss — rather the process of eating well.

Years ago I used to tell people to eat “Fresh and Lean”. Today I still believe fresh is the best, and processed foods should be kept at a minimum or cut out completely. I tell my people to be in control of what they eat based on how their body responds to the food they eat. It goes beyond the standard considerations.

  • I don’t eat dairy
  • I’m vegan
  • I don’t eat gluten
  • I only drink water
  • I eliminated beef from my diet
  • I eat very few fruits

If you any or all of these dietary considerations I do hope you have come to that decision because your body told you to eat that way. The best advice we can get is from ourselves, and my first and most insistent approach I ask a client is to study how the body is working by frequently asking this question:

How did you feel after you ate _______________?”

Until you begin to do this you will never find the correct diet for yourself. If you’ve been following my work for any length of time you recognize this as the cornerstone of the ZWL approach to fitness. It remains the single most discovery you can make happen for a successful lifestyle change. Don’t blow it off!

Now, back to the issue of water. ThoughtCo says, “The amount of water in the human body ranges from 50-75%. The average adult human body is 50-65% water, averaging around 57-60%.” So how often do you think you drink enough water? With the percentages running from 50-75% don’t you think it’s important to also pay attention to what you drink? Awareness of how you feel when you eat, and how much water you have put back into your body are the building blocks of a healthy, vibrant life. Get busy and make each day your best.
