Nobody can diet for you. You must decide what to eat and when to eat it. You put the food in your mouth and chew. The next best thing to having someone diet for you is to have a chef who cooks all the food you will eat. Then there is no thought process. This same chef will have to follow you around all day making sure you are presented ONLY with foods you are allowed to eat. Now really, is this possible? ZWL is dedicated to helping you write your personal diet program.
No coach can be with you 24/7. Even when people hire me as their Lifestyle Health Coach I offer the next best thing. I often use the expression, “Put on your big-girl panties. . . ” There is a point when you have to be responsible for what you eat, but I am easily accessible for my clients. ZWL offers accountability — nearly 24/7.
It is not a ONE DIET fits ALL world. People talk about the diet they’re doing as if it’s the high school they attended. Doing the Atkins, or doing Weight Watchers may be good for one person, but not everybody responds to the different programs in the same way. ZWL teaches you to do “The (insert your name here) Diet”. It is the only way you’ll be able to learn how to eat right for you. Not your body type, not your blood type…for the YOU who lives in that body.
Heredity is not the reason you’re fat. We love to point blame for the short-comings we find in ourselves. This isn’t a valid reason for obesity. The Environmental (not Heredity) role shows up when you examine your poor eating habits. Then it is a learned behavior. Heredity determines the shapes of our bodies, ears, hands and legs are determined by genetic makeup. You can look at the family when your butt is too flat to make you happy. Not how the body responds to food. ZWL teaches this process.
Food is always more important than self-esteem. While this statement is not a truth — it is a harsh reality believed by many overweight people. It is true that food brings comfort. It makes us feel better when we’re angry. Children who hear their mother nag about how eating will make them fat are more prone to eat out of spite! This is like the circular reference “Which came first” The chicken or the egg?” Low self-esteem causes obesity, or does being overweight force you to de-value yourself? When trying to break free from this cycle you have to build a positive image. ZWL can help here, but if you believe you may have an eating disorder seek professional help. There are web sites which may help you sort it out and you might consider OA (Overeaters Anonymous)
Severe calorie restriction is not the answer to weight loss. I couldn’t have said it any better than this article from WebMD “Severely slashing calories may lead to weight loss, but the lost weight includes precious muscle and lowers metabolism. Drastic calorie restriction also causes a shift toward a higher percentage of body fat, which increases the risk for metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes.” Slashing calories does nothing to teach you to appreciate food and what it does for your body. ZWL does!
Cardio, or extreme full-body workouts will get the weight off, but not keep it off. The body adapts to the frequency, duration and intensity of all exercise. Constantly raising the bar to work harder, bigger, longer, better and more extreme is not the answer. Eventually you will hit a wall where the body cannot do any more. For those Baby Boomers in our midst, you will find early on that the body breaks down before benefits are seen. Cardio is important, lifting is important, but be reasonable. If you need to lose weight look at the duration of your exercise. Walking 20 minutes might be okay to start, but as you find it is easier increase to 30-45 minutes. Intensity is reserved for athletes and those choosing to build muscle. ZWL teaches discernment.
