There are more commentaries on the subject of Intention and Attention than I had ever realized. Researching what others had to say about this topic was a study in redundancy. Over and over the same words used to describe the same thing. They all come down to our desire to change and our negligence in making those changes. For the purpose of this article I am recusing myself from discussions about life in general and I wish to talk about fitness. Now, there’s a big surprise.
You made your body what it is today. With all the bumps and bruises, the lumps and bulges, and you are the only person who can change it. You have to find the desire to make the changes. Then you have to make your plan and set your INTENTION.
Intention — aim, ambition, aspiration, design, dream, end, idea, ideal, intent, goal, mark, meaning, object, objective, plan, point, pretension, purpose, target, thing.
For the sake of this discussion I will call it doing your THING. If it is your Thing to lose weight and get fit and get well then write it down. This is the easy step. It’s the most fun. It’s the time you can dream big, almost impossible dreams! There is nothing that is impossible when you put your attention on it. Get with it and make your life more fun than you ever imagined! Don’t be so heavy and intense about everything.
The next step is to keep your ATTENTION on it. This is the hard part. We can be easily distracted because life is so serious and transient and noisy. It is the swirling world around us that keeps us from focusing our attention on our thing. The best way to do this is to enter silence regularly through meditation and reading the list of the things you decide are your THING. Making it a habit of sitting in silence you can draw to yourself a more balanced relationship with the world. A quiet prayer time followed by peaceful meditation will get you closer to your INTENTION and you will truly feel as if you are floatin’ on a breeze.
